APRIL 27-MAY 6: COACHELLA EXPANDS, ADDS COUNTRY FEST

Dec 8, 2006 2:21 PM

For the first time, Goldenvoice has announced that this year's Coachella Valley Music & Arts Festival will be a three-day event—Friday, April 27, Saturday, April 28 and Sunday, April 29—to be followed a weekend later by their first-ever country music festival on Saturday, May 5 and Sunday, May 6. Both events will take place at Empire Polo Field in Indio, Calif., the same grounds where Coachella has been held seven times before.

Thus far, line-up for the as-yet-to-be-named country festival includes George Strait, Kenny Chesney, Sugarland, Willie Nelson, Lucinda Williams, Sparrow Quarter featuring Bela Fleck, Emmylou Harris and Nickel Creek, among others. The artists will perform in four distinct performance areas including the main stage, an alt-country stage, a bluegrass stage and a storytelling area with Garrison Keillor, Red Steagall (the 2006 Texas Poet Laureate) and others.
