CD Review: diskJokke, Staying In

Feb 5, 2008 6:44 PM Noah Levine (Writer)

The sophisticated dance beats on this debut should come as no surprise seeing as the Norwegian producer is a big part of a scene that also produced Lindstrom, Prins Thomas and Oslo's esteemed Sunkissed events. True to the course set by his countrymen, diskJokke's evocative music takes its influences from disco's descendants. The rhythms hang in the margins between breaks and house, as cuts like "Storre enn forst antatt" and "Interpolation" pair Italo synths and Chicago bass lines, and "Cold Out" employs rolling percussion and abundant bottom. It's another triumph for Oslo.
