CD Review: Christopher Bissonnette, In Between Words
Jun 24, 2008 12:37 PM Kristi Kates (Writer)
Using orchestral samples,
studio-created sounds and field recordings, Bissonnette creates an endless zone
of atmosphere on his sophomore set. Each track pulls the ear toward a slightly
different audio locale, none of which are definitive, all of which leave room
for interpretation. Droning oboelike strings on "Provenance,"
snapping twigs and electro-cars on "Orffyreus Wheel" and the rusty
bells and lost violins on "Tempest" conjure up faint melodies,
accompanied by a wind that blows through empty pastures and urban concrete
warehouses. It's an intriguing and accomplished way to chill.
