March 16: Have Lunch with Bjork and Meredith Monk, Today at Noon!
Mar 16, 2007 1:42 PM
Sarah Cahill's radio program with Meredith Monk and Bjork will be broadcast this Friday, March 16 at noon Pacific time, 3 p.m. Eastern time, at www.counterstreamradio.org, which is the new Web-based station of the American Music Center. Meredith Monk and Bjork had admired each other's music for many years and corresponded, but had never met until they were brought together in a studio in Carnegie Hall. It was an amazing afternoon; they were so affectionate and gracious with each other, as you can hear in the conversation. Cahill talked with them about their musical connections, their creative process, singing with their families, and singing without words. The interview is interspersed with musical excerpts from both artists. Cahill created and scripted and produced with funds from American Public Media and support from the American Music Center. It was edited and all put together by Dean Santomieri, with Cahill's assistance, on his home computer in Oakland, Calif.
There's lots of intriguing music already at www.counterstream.org, and the official launch of the station happens on Friday. Also check out Sarah's regular show Then & Now, on KALW, 91.7, Sunday nights, from 8 to 10 p.m.
