Beck's Landmark Odelay album, Mach II

Jan 8, 2008 7:10 PM

1996's Odelay album may have been the set that really launched Beck, and spawned a whole host of sample-crazed imitators. No one, of course, could ever live up to the Beckster's original ideal set; but Beck himself is sure going to try to. A dozen years after its release, Odelay is being expanded into a two-disc Deluxe Edition, with two previously unreleased tracks from the original Odelay sessions, one of Beck's soundtrack contributions ("Deadweight" from the film A Life Less Ordinary) and 16 B-sides and compilation tracks only previously released as imports. A plethora of remixes will also be also included, including takes on "Where It's At" by U.N.K.L.E. and "Devil's Haircut" by Aphex Twin. As if that weren't enough, you'll also get a Spanish-language version of Beck's "Jackass"—titled, of course, "Burro"—recorded with, yep, you guessed it, an authentic mariachi band.

Odelay has been named on so many top album lists that we don't wanna bore you by listing 'em all here; just pick up the Deluxe Edition of Odelay on Jan. 29 and hear for yourself what all the fuss is about.
