Established: Exponential is an emerging indie label making Texas an unlikely hub for electronic music. Officially started in 2002 by Ernest Gonzales, Exponential has released a steady stream of albums, with more to come.

Artists: A.M. Architect, Ernest Gonzales, Diego Chavez, Aether216, Mnolo, Darby, Otic Angst

Essential Listening: DJ Jester, Heavily Booted (2002); Theory of Everything, Lullaby (2004); Various Artists, Exponential Presents Collapsing Culture (2006); Ernest Gonzales, While on Saturn's Rings (2007); Various Artists, Wait til the Ice Melts (2008)

Manifesto: “Exponential is a label that is helping to collapse cultures proving that good music can come from anywhere,” says label founder Ernest Gonzales. “We believe strongly in the do-it-yourself mentality, from producing the music to designing our own artwork. At the core, our music is driven by passion, experimentation and advancement. There are no gimmicks, no fashion experts, no shady marketing strategies — just a diverse group of artists committed to producing quality music in the hopes of being able to share it with listeners.”

A&R Philosophy: “We accept demos, MP3s and links,” Gonzales says. “We're always looking for projects to release, remix opportunities, and artists to collaborate with.”

Upcoming: Exponential has a number of 2008 releases, including those from Diego Chavez, Otic Angst and A.M. Architect.
