Style: “Music we love,” says Ian Quay, label manager.
Established: In 2007 in New York City by Scott Rodger of Quest Management, representing Arcade Fire and Björk; and Isaac Green of StarTime International, original home to The Walkmen and Brendan Benson, with the support of Steve Barnett and Columbia Records.
Artists: Peter Bjorn and John, Does It Offend You, Yeah?, Walter Meego, Calvin Harris, Wild Light
Essential Listening: Peter Bjorn and John, Writer's Block (2007); Does It Offend You, Yeah?, You Have No Idea What You're Getting Yourself Into (2008); Walter Meego, Voyager (2008).
Manifesto: “We love music,” Quay says. “And we think others will love what we love. Put your money where your mouth is? We did, and named it Almost Gold Recordings.”
A&R Philosophy: “Almost Gold is a very personal label,” Quay says. “We all — artist and label — strive to be on the same page, artistically and commercially, as well as personally and professionally. Our goal is to dedicate ourselves to each release, and so we tend to have fewer artists, with more attention and time spent on each project. Even still, we are always listening.”
Upcoming: “Does It Offend You, Yeah? touring nationwide with Yo Majesty, including a stop at Lollapalooza,” Quay says. “Walter Meego will also tour the U.S. with The Presets.”
